MaryPIRG partnered with the Greek Community to host our Greek Energy Week. MaryPIRG volunteers assessed and weatherized 8 houses during the week, educating students about more energy efficient practices and directly weatherization some off campus dwellings. The week culminated in a press conference with Maryland State PIRG, where the their report on Maryland's EmPOWER program was released.
The Maryland Legislature passed the EmPOWER program in 2008 to increase Maryland's energy efficiency. Unfortunately, performance has been less than ideal which is programs like MaryPIRG's Energy Service Corps are helping to educate students about ways to be energy efficient and directly weatherizing homes.
