Affordable Textbooks Table
If you think textbook prices are too high, you are not alone.
On Wednesday and Thursday, MaryPIRG held a table outside of the Stamp Student Union to collect signatures for a petition advocating more affordable textbooks. The petition specifically advocates the implementation of open-source textbooks, which are free online, affordable to print, and contain the same content as any physical textbook.
Those who signed the petition could also “take action” by volunteering their names to be used in emails to professors as examples of real people who would like to see more affordable textbooks.
Over the course of just two days, we collected over 300 signatures. We plan to meet with department chairs and Deans to talk about specific open-source books they can use in classes to save students thousands of dollars.
